Because our work is done by people, we would like to introduce you to the people behind our employees. Today, we introduce our colleague Marco Sprangers. Marco entered the profession at the age of 23 and now has years of experience as an inspector.
“My father, who works as a crane operator for the stevedoring company IGMA, got me interested in working in the port.
When I was in my early twenties, I started looking around and when I came across a vacancy for an inspector at an inspection company, I applied. After a few years I started to work as a self-employed person. And so I came into contact with RVJ Cargo Inspections where I have been employed since the beginning of this year. The nice thing about working at RVJ Cargo Inspections is that you get the opportunity to develop yourself in a relatively new organisation and that you can start up new projects together.
I have been working as a controller for more than 10 years now and the nice thing of the work is the variety and the contact with stevedores and ship’s crew to get the job done. That always remains fun. And of course I like my own work. As a controller, you have to be able to accurately reflect the condition of the goods you are checking. As a controller, you are actually the ears and eyes of the customer. The responsibility that you bear is what makes the work so much fun.
In addition, it is always a challenge to make sure that, as a controller, you keep abreast of developments that affect the profession. That your contractual knowledge of sampling procedures such as FOSFA & GAFTA is up to date. And that you keep up with changes within the GMP rules regarding hold inspections of ships.
Never a dull moment!”
